Summary: Abstract : This book is about how to lead, administer, and manage programmes in physical education, fitness, and sports. These programmes include athletics, intramural competition and recreation, referred to as activity-based programmes. If a weak link exists somewhere in the leadership or administrative chain, a programme can still be successful, when a strong and effective leader at some other level can adequately compensate for the weak link. Because leadership and management are the essential factors in the success of any activity-based programme, the nature of these two important processes is discussed. At the end of each chapter, case studies are presented, to provide an opportunity to feel the satisfaction of solving problems. Part 1 is an overview of leadership and management in physical education, fitness and sports. Part 2 addresses the basic skills and processes of management, while part 3 considers the functions of management applied to activity-based programmes. Each chapter is introduced through a set of concise objectives, and ends with a list of key words and phrases, questions for review, a se lf-test of multiple choice questions and case studies.
